Minor girl raped by over 60
In a shocking revelation, an 18-year-old sportsperson in Kerala’s Patnaam Theta district on Friday alleged that she was raped by over 60 men over a period of five years when she was a minor. Police have arrested six people following the complaint.
The matter came to light during the girl’s counselling by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), when the victim’s teachers at an educational institution informed the panel about the significant changes in her behaviour. All the claims in the report received by the CWC have been directly referred to the Patnaam Theta Superintendent of Police.
Initial police investigations have identified at least 62 possible accused. Based on the revelation, the police have registered a case against 40 people under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to police, the girl’s sexual abusers included coaches, players, and classmates.
