NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League big auction will take place later this year, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced new rules on Saturday that will allow teams to keep up to six players. But the catch is that the six retentions will come at the price that the board decided to include—five retentions plus one RTM.
The majority of franchises may be required by the rule to accept up to three retentions at most. Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja stated that the Mumbai Indians should acquire skipper Hardik Pandya via the Right to Match card rather than keeping him in the team amid the commotion around the new auction rules.
Jadeja believes that skipper Hardik can be pulled from the RTM card at the auction, and that Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav should all be kept. “Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav are without a doubt the three that MI will keep.” If these players are put up for auction, it is difficult to acquire them “Jadeja stated on Jio Cinema.
Additionally, I believe MI can use Hardik Pandya’s RTM card. Indeed, given his playing style, it’s possible that you won’t win the auction either. However, there’s a potential that his propensity for injuries will prevent the other teams from opening their banks to him.
“You can use to their advantage if you have an RTM. Although I’m not suggesting that this determines a player’s ability or strength, it will be a challenging business when you consider a guy like Bumrah and his worth in comparison to Hardik Pandya on the market, Jadeja continued.
The five-time champions finished last in the previous league season under Hardik’s captaincy. It was also decided during the IPL governing council meeting that the franchises’ purse for the auction would be enhanced to Rs 120 crore.
